Critical Daily    Critical practice in graphic design

To choose a critical issue I did not have to go far from my home. I have focused directly on kitchen in my apartment where I live. About a week before the start of the course, suddenly moths started to appear. My goal was to persuade and motivate my roommates to clean the kitchen cabinets and destroy the nests.

To achieve the objective I have used several methods. Each of the roommates got an illustration with information about the morning cleaning, as a motivation after cleaning I would unveil the hidden cone of marijuana. On arrival in the kitchen all food boxes were put out waiting to be cleaned. Among the foods I spread extra photos of larvae with unpleasant information and advice on how to get rid of them.

The project was only partially successful. The kitchen was really cleaned by 6 pm, old food thrown away and taken out of the apartment. However, my project has involved only two of the five roommates. Finally, most of the work was done only by girls roommates.

The project was created during the course Critic – Critical practice in Graphic Design at Department of Visual Communication at Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. The course foucuses on practicing and developing individual or collaborative critical projects.
