The topic of consumption is not so uniqe these days. Its been quite a cliche acctualy. Especially when a designer speaks about comsumption and consume lifestyle but earns money with design that helps deliver the profit.
But still, does it mean, that a designer should not talk about these topics at all? Does it come from a hypocritical nature of our rotten souls or self-defending position? Unfortunately I really don't know the answer. But I really think we need to discuss these issues no matter what we do in life or what profession we
decide to perform.
We, designers, help to spread ideas. Good ideas and sometimes less necessary ideas that are shallow, mentally week, just helping to sell, promote other peoples' ideas about selling something potentially important for the society. Sometimes we help communicate products that no one really needs, or think they need. More important is (and that's what matters), that we don't loose our willing to reflect the world we live in.
This project shows how a Ondrej Gavalda did not loose the willing to reflect. He still feels the need to reflect the mental illness of the society we live in. With these bizzare posters he proved what he thinks - that we are the ones that form and effect our own future. Maybe it will help, maybe not, at least he tried.
