Priestor [Space] is a publication containing educational messages, presented on newsprint in booklet form and intended for future creators and admirers of architecture. The project is mainly aimed at children and young audiences, but has a fresh quality that also makes it appealing to adults.
The approach taken to architecture, its theory and history, is based on stories. It points to architecture as a discipline that deals with space. The format of this graphic journal was created by architects Oľga Miháliková and Martin Zaiček, with illustrator Ivana Čobejová and graphic designer Ľubica Segečová. So far, the Slovak Chamber of Architects (SKA) has published two issues in two years.
SKA is a professional organisation that focuses on educating and informing the public of the need for good architecture. In a form reminiscent of newspapers, comic books or colouring books, children (and parents and others) learn about today’s architecture, displayed in a playful way.
Ľubica Segečová worked with SKA on the design of various projects — from yearbooks to the visual identity of CE ZA AR, the annual award for ‘best architecture’. The Priestor project is the experimental outcome of this wider collaboration and provides designers with a very generous amount of page-space in which to present the message of excellence in architecture. The illustrations merge with the text, with the main carriers of the message being the graphics, making it pleasant to read and clearly understandable.
