The city of Bratislava was active after the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic and responded to this new situation and launched an awareness campaign for inhabitants. Advice and recommendations for behavior to prevent the spread of the virus, were presented throughout the city in the form of citylights in two versions. The basic version works with clear infographics and is named Bratislava is ready for coronavirus. The posters were designed by graphic designer Ondrej Bódiš. The second, illustrated version called Our only vaccineis discipline was drawn by a cartoonist and graphic designer Martin Shooty Šútovec.

Bratislava city established a webpage www.zvladneme.to (we will manage), where citizens can find up to date information. The web page is providing Bratislava residents with a package of recommendations and information about the situation in the city also in English language. The posters from Shooty are also available in Roma language.

During any crisis, visual communication plays an essential role in spreading information, and it is necessary to choose the right visual language for this. Graphic designers are the ones who have full responsibility for these choices, and in situations like these, the society can see and appreciate their work. There are plenty of opportunities currently for all kinds of designers for activism and critical interventions in spaces, where official authorities repeatedly fail, and I hope to see this happening in Bratislava.
