This project is a respond to a project created by Philip Ruisi. It was about an issue of illegal music downloads. The project targeted the community of producers and musicians. I think that the main reason of doing this project was to question the self-reflection of each of the authors who has been using stolen music or music without a permission of the authors.
His proposal was to send the musicians who are acting illegally an Indulgance proposal. They was supposed to use it and send to the authors of music they have used illegaly at least as a gesture of respect. I decided to continue in this project because I really like this idea of sending a poster/banner in a form of an indulgences. But I have decided to target it to a whole new group of people. My target groups were ordinary people / YouTube users. I created a karaoke version of indulgences, but I have modified the lyrics.
I used a well known mainstream song from Adele called “Hello”. It begins with words… “Hello, it's me…” and continues with my text talking about the indulgences. People who are familiar with this song, while singing karaoke find that the on-screen text is different and therefore they decide to turn off the video. An interesting and funny situation can occur if a performer/singer who does not know the lyrics well, sings the song with this modificated lyrics. But of course Instead of the Adele song I could in the future choose some other one that is more hot and famous from charts.
The project was created during the course Critic - Critical Practice in Graphic Design that was launched at the Department of Visual Communication on Academy of Fine Art and Design in Bratislava in 2013.
