Project    Molecova street project

Stressed people ignore the life risk or a car exident in order to catch the bus

Molecova intersection is a very busy transport hub. It is place where dual streets meet with a tram stop and supermarket. The problem is that car drivers ignore the pedestrians, therefore it became a very dramatically dangerous place. Green light for pedestrians is too short. People often go across the road between the cars to catch the bus, they simply do not want to wait. The result is a dangerous situation where vehicles sharply break and pedestrians mindlessly run between the buffers.

The ideal solution would be to completely rebuild the intersection. But it is not in my power. So I decided to at least remind pedestrians what they risk when violating traffic rules. I applied "Memento mori" to the edge of the sidewalk and the roadway with a bright red spray. It is a place where people stand and wait. Thus, they have time to notice it.

I can not say whether the project was successful. Within about half an hour after spraying inscription has not decreased the number of racing on red light. I suppose the sign was not easy to read on the road. Some of the pedestrians started clean it from the snow with shoes, which has just begun to fall! Anyway, it was a challenge for me to intervene in the public space. I also gained experience with working with spray, template, typography and pavement.
To design the sign properly, it should be be bigger and the stencil cut from a hard cardboard. I would also rather implement the project during the spring time when there is no chance of snow :)
