When you open brochure to Dismaland catalogue under the name Strike! Magazine it reads: „can be found in the army tent, dispensing literature, running vandalism workshops and guiding you the chance to print your own porpaganda on their risograph magazine.
“Being at the exhibition it was unthinkable not to go and check them out. We didn’t get the chance to see their risograph but after watching workshop on how to use tools to open the citylight and stick your own poster or change the narrative of the ad, we were glad to be there. Sadly and because we didnt have a need to open citylight at that time, we did not purchase the tools but we were leaving with a set of stickers.
Strike! Magazine describe itself as s „dissident collective based in London“. Strike! is abi-annual self-published and self-distributed magazine. Strike! is also an online platform for anyone who is involved in grassroots projects, anti-opression politics, philosophies and creative expressions around these movements. They are known to organize various events and actions. Magazine is advertisement free and they are fully supported by donations from their readers. Each issue is themed. The magazine releases astatement with the theme of the next issue and contributors can react however they like. It can be written, visual, video, audio or basically any type of reaction they find appropriate.
Another magazine, who criticaly reacts to the world around. I support the idea of calling designers and artists to challenge the status quo on various topics and themes. But I wonder how well are they to get their ideas to be heared outside of their regular audience? Do they consider to push their issues to people who have opportunity to change something in the world.
