Critical Daily    Critical practice in graphic design

I’ve chosen thiefs to be the target group of my project. They break into the apartment building I live in almost on a monthly basis. Each time, though, they keep to one place. They get through the door and walk down the hallway. They try to get into the garage but fail to do so every time. 

The goal of my work was not to solve the problem. There are other people and other ways to do that. I wanted to address this situation by confronting the burglars directly. I’ve prepared a "visitors’ book" for them where they are asked to write their name, the time they entered and left the building. 

I tried for somewhat of a sarcastic approach to the problem. I wanted to respond with a gesture that could create an element of surprise. I wanted to raise the feeling of uncertainty in them and confront them, which is something they probably don’t expect.

This project was created during the course Critic – Critical practice in Graphic Design at Department of Visual Communication at Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. Tutored by Katarína Balážiková. The course foucuses on practicing and developing individual or collaborative critical projects.
